Resource Management

Resource Management helps you to efficiently plan, schedule and allocate resources for your projects. You can manage projects, allocate resources or placeholders, look into resource demands,  check for over allocation and under allocation.

By keeping a tab over the work hours of your team members, you can ensure that resources are better allocated with a balanced load sharing model where no one is under/ over worked. Comparing project timelines and resource availability helps you to churn results faster and with efficiency.

How to Access Resource Management?

You can access Resource Management by clicking on Resource Management icon from the vertical left navigation bar.

Resource Management: The Demand Tab

The Demand tab in Resource management helps you to adopt a more quantitative approach to resource planning and significantly improves your billable utilisation rate.

The Demand Tab screen displays the resource related information to help you identify the week-on-week or month-on-month demand-supply balance for various roles in their company.

If the demand for a role is running close to 100% of available capacity or going over for a sustained period of time, this is an indication that that role will become a bottleneck for smooth project delivery in the future. With this data, the organisation can then consider hiring more people for that role or outsourcing some projects based on convenience.

Note: The demand is calculated as (Allocation/ Capacity) * 100

Search

The Search button helps you to look for specific projects or team members.

The Month and Week Views

You can change the view by switching between the time spans that you want to see on the timelines. Switch between Month and Week views.

Zoom in and Zoom out

This filter lets you maximise/ minimise the view and automatically changes timespans between Month and Week view.

Previous/ Next timespan

Allows you to move to the previous/next timespan based on the level of zoom that you are currently on and your current viewing window size.

Today

Clicking on the Today button brings you back to the current date on the timeline.

Demand Tab: The Role Column

The Demand Tab at Rocketlane is categorised based on Roles.

The Role column next to the timeline lists all the roles in your organisation.

The number next to each role displays the number of existing employees in that role.

Clicking on each role displays the available capacity and allocations for that role in hours.

The capacity and allocations are the deciding factors in determining the demand for that role.

Note: The demand is calculated as (Allocation/ Capacity) * 100

Demand Tab: Capacity

The Capacity row indicates the total available capacity (in hours) for the current time span view i.e total weekly capacity or the total monthly capacity.

Demand Tab: Allocations

The Allocations row indicates the total number of hours that have been allocated to the resources for the current time span view i.e total weekly allocation or the total monthly allocation.

The Allocations section is categorised into people and placeholders which are further categorised into hard and soft allocations.

  • People (Hard)

Indicates the number of hours that have been allocated to team members on a confirmed basis.

  • People (Soft)

Indicates the number of hours that have been allocated to team members on a tentative basis.

  • Placeholders (Hard)

Indicates the number of hours that have been allocated to placeholders on a confirmed basis.

  • Placeholders (Soft)

Indicates the number of hours that have been allocated to placeholders on a tentative basis.

Demand Tab: The Timeline View

The timeline view for the Demand tab indicates the demand for a specific role over a time span in percentages.

The Capacity and Allocations rows display the capacity for a role in hours and the number of hours allocated to people or placeholders in that role.

The timeline bars are colour coded according to the degree of allocation for ease of viewing.

You can hover over a timeline bar and get the summary for the demand of that role for the given time span.

Note: In case of over allocation, you can notice a red line over the timeline bar for a team member.
